Late Goal from Vallone Helps Ferris State Soccer to Road Tie Against Davenport

Caledonia, Mich. – Bella Vallone headed a goal home off a corner kick late in Ferris State Soccer's Sunday (Oct. 12) contest against Davenport University as the Bulldogs tied the Panthers 1-1 in Caledonia.
Ferris State (3-3-5, 3-2-2 GLIAC) trailed for most of the game after an early score from Davenport, but big saves from sophomore goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke kept the Bulldogs within a goal, allowing Vallone to tie the game late.
DU struck first with a goal from Ella Chatfield at 17:44. Megan Malek placed a free kick into the box and Chatfield managed to sneak a shot past Ihrke for the goal.
The Panthers held their 1-0 lead into halftime. FSU had three shots on goal and four corner kicks in the first half. DU had six shots on goal and five corner kicks with Ihrke making five saves in the half.
Finally, at 81:51, Vallone evened the score with her second goal of the year. Grace Sampson took a corner kick that Vallone headed past DU goalkeeper Elizabeth Wolter, tying the game at one goal apiece. Sampson collected her second assist of the year.
Haley Buckman had a shot on goal just minutes after Vallone tied the score, but Wolter made the save and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
In total, FSU had nine shots on goal, eight corner kicks and 18 fouls. DU had seven shots on goal, five corner kicks and 12 fouls.
Individually, Sampson and Buckman each had two shots on goal. Ihrke made six saves and Sampson led the team with four total shot attempts. Sampson, Vallone, Natalia Leavens, Ella Wolf and Annie Hartley each played 90 minutes.
Ferris State will be back on the road for two GLIAC contests next weekend beginning Friday (Oct. 17) at Purdue Northwest. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (ET) with coverage provided on FloCollege.
