Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University sophomore goalkeeper Rachel McCollum (Grand Blanc) was rewarded for her efforts this past weekend by being tabbed as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week.
The weekly award is chosen by the conference office and sponsored by Hit Trophy.
McCollum posted a pair of shutout wins in league play on the road as the Bulldogs improved to 6-2-2 in GLIAC action. She first tallied 13 saves in FSU's 1-0 overtime victory over Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Oct. 7) in University Center. McCollum then added a pair of saves as the Bulldogs topped Northwood by an identical 1-0 score on Sunday (Oct. 9) in Midland.
McCollum has given up just one goal in the last three Bulldog contests and has four shutouts in her last six appearances.
With the two wins over the weekend, Ferris State remains in second place in the GLIAC North Division behind defending national champion Grand Valley State as the Bulldogs own a current 6-2-2 league record and are 6-5-2 overall.
Sunday's win over Northwood was FSU's fifth in its last seven contests and the Bulldogs have lost just once in that seven-match stretch despite having six of those matches on the road.
The Bulldogs wrap up an eight-match road swing with a pair of matches this coming week in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. FSU first visits Michigan Tech on Friday, Oct. 14, for a 4 p.m. (ET) tilt in Houghton before meeting Northern Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 12 p.m. (ET) in Marquette.
