Big Rapids, Mich. - Fall preseason camp is officially underway for the Ferris State University women's soccer team.
The Bulldogs, who will be guided by second-year head coach Matt Kellogg, reported for initial testing and team meetings on Sunday (Aug. 14). Monday's slate included physicals and additional testing along with NCAA compliance meetings.
The practice schedule gets underway today (Tuesday) with a morning testing session followed by an afternoon intrasquad game. The start of two-a-day practices begins on Wednesday (Aug. 17) and will run until Aug. 28.
Along with the normal preseason practices, the Bulldogs will also take part in a pair of exhibition matches prior to the official start of the campaign. FSU hosts Lewis (Ill.) in a preseason tilt this Sunday (Aug. 21) at 11 a.m. (ET) before visiting Davenport next Tuesday (Aug. 23) for an evening contest.
The Bulldogs then officially start the regular-season by traveling to Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend for a pair of non-league outings against host Indianapolis on Sept. 2 and Drury (Mo.) on Sept. 4.
Ferris State opens its home slate facing Saginaw Valley State on Sept. 9 in what represents the Bulldogs' Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener. FSU continues the five-match homestand with Northwood (Sept. 11), Madonna (Sept. 14), Northern Michigan (Sept. 16), and Michigan Tech (Sept. 18) on the docket. The lone non-conference tilt during that stretch is the Sept. 14 meeting with Madonna.
Overall, Ferris State will play 18 regular-season matches during the 2011 regular season, highlighted by eight home matches.
Ferris State registered a 7-9-3 overall record for the 2010 campaign as the Bulldogs finished fourth in the GLIAC's North Division with a 7-6-2 conference ledger. FSU also made its third GLIAC Tournament appearance in the program's history.
