Freshman goalkeeper Rachel McCollum (Grand  Blanc), a member of the 2010 Ferris State University women's soccer team, has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" as announced by the conference office this Monday (Oct. 11).

McCollum earned the conference honor as a result of recording a pair of shutouts this past weekend (Oct. 8 and 10) in a pair of 2-0 home conference victories over Saginaw Valley State and Northwood at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.  She registered a combined 12 saves in 180 minutes of action between the posts, which featured a couple diving saves in the Northwood match.  McCollum turned aside five shots on goal by Saginaw Valley State last Friday (Oct. 8) and then chalked up seven stops against Northwood on Sunday (Oct. 10).

This season, McCollum has posted a current 6-5-1 record with an 0.82 goals-against average (10 goals allowed) and an .867 saves percentage in 1,100 minutes of playing time as a starter in all 12 Bulldog contests.  Her six shutouts this season ties a program single-season record currently shared with Carla Gilbertson (2004).

To date, McCollum presently ranks third among Ferris State's all-time leaders in save percentage, sixth in victories while occupying seventh place in both goals-against average and total saves.

Ferris State, which is 6-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the GLIAC North Division under first-year head coach Matt Kellogg, visits the Lewis Flyers this Tuesday (Oct. 12) afternoon in a non-league contest at Romeoville, Ill.  A 3:30 p.m. (EDT) start time is scheduled for the encounter.
