It's good to be home.
The 2011 Ferris State University softball team will get their first opportunity to play at home on Tuesday, March 29, when the Bulldogs host the Davenport University Panthers in a non-conference doubleheader at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
Opening pitch for game one is at 4 p.m. (EDT) with the second game to follow about 20 minutes following the conclusion of the opener. The contests will represent the first-ever meetings on the diamond between the two in-state schools.
Ferris State, which is coached by 14th-year head coach Keri Becker, is scheduled to play 20 home contests this spring with 16 of those outings being Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games.
Following the home opener against Davenport, the Bulldogs will entertain the Aquinas Saints on Thursday, March 31 at 4 p.m. (EDT), in a non-league twinbill before beginning the home portion of their GLIAC schedule with back-to-back doubleheaders versus the Lake Superior State Lakers the weekend of April 2-3. A 1 p.m. (EDT) start time is slated for opening contest on Saturday, (April 2) while Sunday's (April 3) doubleheader gets underway at noon (EDT) with game one.
This season, the GLIAC has been separated into a North and South Division. Ferris State will be joined in the North Division by Lake Superior State, Northwood, Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State, and Hillsdale.
The Bulldogs presently have a 3-9 overall record this season following their annual appearance in the Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament (March 5-12) at Kissimmee, Fla.
