Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University hit the track again on Friday (Feb. 17) as the Bulldogs sent selected competitors to the Grand Valley State Open in Allendale.
The FSU men's and women's indoor track and field teams both had individuals in action at the meet, which was hosted inside the Kelly Family Sports Center. The field included student-athletes from FSU, GVSU, Calvin, Robert Morris, St. Franics, Hope and others.
Junior Alyssa Osika won the 800 meters (2:13.28) while surpassing the national provisional qualification time. Senior Tina Muir reached the national provisional mark in winning the mile run (4:53.74) and also placed sixth in the 800 meters (2:18.74) while setting new personal records in each event.
Junior Zoey Hohmann took second place in the 400 meters while reaching a national provisional qualification time with a 56.73 performance. She also finished in fourth place in the 200 meters (25.93) while Shea Van Klompenberg came in sixth in the 400 meters (58.50).
FSU's Brittany Anderson finished second in the 3,000 meters (10:10.96) while junior Shelby Janutol came in seventh in the mile (5:01.86). Alesha Reed wound up seventh in the high jump (4-10.25) and Briana Rassio took eighth place in the shot put (35-3.25).
Ferris State was also fourth in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:08.77).
Senior Justin Price won the 400 meters (49.56) and came in 10th in the 200 meters (22.93). Meanwhile, Ryan Chute placed second in the mile run (4:15.67) while Connor LaRowe finished ninth in the same event (4:19.33).
Ferris' Spencer Gerber recorded a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters (8:41.39) and Ryan Stankey was fifth in the shot put (48-6.75). Lucas Johnson finished sixth in the weight throw (53-1.50). Also, J.J. Vandenberg placed seventh in the shot put (45-8.50) and eighth in the weight throw (49-10.50).
FSU also finished fourth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:28.58).
The meet was a final tune-up for the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, in Findlay, Ohio.
