2017 (Sophomore): Played in 104 total sets and 29 matches for Ferris State, helped Bulldogs to their fourth consecutive GLIAC Championship Regular Season and Tournament Championship and third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance… had 395 kills and 327 digs on the season ... earned All-America honors and first-team All-GLIAC kudos ... also chosen as the GLIAC Player and Attacker of the Region ... was an all-region choice.
2016 (Freshman): Started all 36 matches for Ferris State and played in all 130 sets, helped Bulldogs to their third consecutive GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championship and second consecutive NCAA Regional Final appearance…was voted GLIAC Freshman of the year and a member of the All-GLIAC Volleyball First Team…All-America Honorable Mention…2016 AVCA Division II All-Midwest Region Team member…three-time GLIAC Player of the Week…led Ferris State with 434 kills, added 67 total blocks, third best on the team…was also third best on the team with 395 digs…had a season-best 22 kills at Davenport on 9/24…had 10 or more kills in 25 matches…had a season best four blocks in a single match four times…her 38 service aces were second most on the team.
The 5-10 Cappel played four seasons under head coach Mary Brown at Lincoln-Way North High School in Frankfort, Ill. The two-time Chicago Tribune Player of the Month honoree was a four-year letterwinner and compiled 341 kills with 211 digs, 35 blocks and 35 aces while leading her squad to a 35-4 overall mark as a senior. During her prep career, she served as team captain and was both a first-team all-conference and all-area choice.
Cappel helped Lincoln-Way North win three-straight conference titles and a pair of regional championships on the prep level. The four-year Scholar-Athlete Award honoree claimed numerous all-tournament team mentions and guided Lincoln-Way North to a sectional crown and Elite Eight finish in 2015. She previously posted 210 kills, 169 digs and 41 aces as her squad compiled a 33-3 mark in her junior season.
Along with her standout prep career, Cappel also played club volleyball for the Michio Chicago Volleyball Academy and the national team under coach Bob Heersema. Previously, she was a Illinois Level 5 State Champion gymnast in the bars and vault and also played varsity basketball. Cappel was also active in the student council and is both a National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society member at Lincoln-Way North. Her parents, Eric and Deborah Cappel, both competed collegiately at Northeast Missouri State in basketball and track/cross country, respectively.
