Late Goal Lifts Purdue Northwest Over FSU In GLIAC Women's Soccer Tilt

HAMMOND, Ind. — The Ferris State University women's soccer squad fell to Purdue Northwest 1-0 on Friday (Oct. 17).

Despite managing five shots, with two on target, the Bulldogs were unable to convert any into goals. Purdue Northwest secured the win with a single goal in the second half, while their goalkeeper recorded a shutout with two saves.

The first half between Ferris State and Purdue Northwest ended scoreless, with both teams failing to capitalize on their opportunities. The Bulldogs' Bella Vallone had an early shot saved by Purdue Northwest's goalkeeper, Poppy Jackson, in the 8th minute. Ferris State managed a total of four shots, with attempts from Isabella Baron, Annie Hartley, and Haley Buckman missing the target.

On the defensive end, the Bulldogs committed several fouls, with Emerson Lukomski and Katherine Welch each fouling twice. Purdue Northwest's Addison Thomas had PNW's best chance in the 33rd minute, but her shot went wide right.

Purdue Northwest secured a 1-0 victory over Ferris State with a late goal in the second half. The only goal of the match came in the 86th minute when Nayla Pena scored, assisted by Mia Davis. The Bulldogs' Korinne Ihrke made several crucial saves, including stopping a shot by Mia Davis in the 47th minute and another by Avery Fraser in the 82nd minute.

Despite Ferris State's attempts, including a shot by Hartley in the 68th minute, the Bulldogs were unable to break through Purdue Northwest's defense. The match concluded with a series of fouls and a final Ferris State corner kick, but the visitors could not find an equalizer.

Ihrke recorded three saves, facing five shots with one goal allowed. Hartley managed two shots, with one of those being on goal. Vallone registered one shot, which was also on target. Buckman contributed with one shot during the match.

Purdue Northwest's Pena led the team by scoring the game's only goal and securing it as the game-winner. Davis contributed with an assist, adding to her season tally. Goalkeeper Jackson effectively defended their net, recording two saves, ensuring a shutout and securing a win.

The Bulldogs will visit Parkside on Sunday (Oct. 19) for a 1 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Kenosha, Wis.
