Bulldog Soccer Wraps Up Weekend Road Series with 2-2 Tie Against Walsh
Canton, Ohio – The Ferris State University women's soccer team played regional opponent Walsh University to a 2-2 tie Sunday (Sept. 14) as the Bulldogs wrapped up a weekend road series.
FSU (0-1-3) played its second road contest against a regional opponent this weekend after tying Findlay 1-1 Friday (Sept. 12). Sunday's contest marked the Bulldogs' third consecutive tie, all against regional competition.
Ferris State scored a season-high two goals Sunday, with one coming from Katherine Welch in the first half and the other from Haley Buckman in half two. Korinne Ihrke was FSU's keeper, and she made four saves in the tie.
Welch put Ferris State on the board early with her first goal of the season at 8:54. Buckman sent a pass to Emerson Lukomski crashing towards the top of the box, and Lukomski managed to get the ball across to Welch, who fired a shot to the lower left corner and past Walsh's goalkeeper, O'Malley Quinlan. FSU took a 1-0 lead and held it for nearly the entire first half.
At 40:06, the Cavaliers got a goal from Paityn Marino with Carli Miller collecting an assist. The score was tied 1-1 going into halftime.
Ihrke made three saves in the first half and the Bulldogs had four shots on goal and four corner kicks. Welch had the scoring strike while Natalia Leavens, Maurine Schneider and Lukomski also each had one shot on frame.
Buckman put FSU up 2-1 with her first goal this year at 63:55. Welch sent a pass through the box that Buckman headed into the back of the net. Welch collected her first assist of the campaign. It was also her second career game with a goal and an assist.
Walsh answered with a goal from Kate Young at 72:55, tying the score at 2-2.
The Bulldogs had four shots on goal in the final 11 minutes of play – two from Welch and one each from Lukomski and Isabella Baron. However, Quinlan saved all four shots, preserving a tie.
For the game, Ferris State had 10 shots on goal, four corner kicks and 12 fouls. Walsh had six shots on goal, four corner kicks and six fouls.
Individually, Welch had a game-high three shots on goal and Lukomski had two. Bella Vallone, Ella Wolf, Lauren McCaul and Baron each played the entire game for FSU.
The Bulldogs will return home for two contests next weekend as GLIAC play begins. FSU will host Davenport Friday (Sept. 19) at the Bulldog Soccer Complex to start the weekend. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) with live coverage available on FloCollege.
