Detroit, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad fell 68-53 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play against the Wayne State Warriors at the WSU Fieldhouse in Detroit.
The Warriors jumped out to a 12-9 lead after the opening quarter of action. FSU took a one-point lead midway thru the second frame, but WSU responded and led 26-21 at halftime, limiting the Bulldogs to only 24% shooting in the first half of play.
Wayne State jumped the lead to double-digits in the third period before Ferris State pulled back within seven to start the fourth. However, the Warriors outscored FSU 22-14 in the final period of action to put the game away.
Ferris State was held to only 31.1% shooting overall and finished eight-of-28 (28.6%) from the three-point line. The Bulldogs were also seven-of-11 (63.8%) at the free throw stripe.
Senior guard Kenzie Bowers led the Bulldogs with a team-high 13 points while both Mia Riley and Emma Schierbeek added nine points each.
The Warriors were led by Shea Tripp with 15 points and Taylor Thompson with 13 points. Both also had eight rebounds and helped WSU outscore FSU 44-18 inside the paint. McKenna Ferguson added 12 points.
With the setback, the Bulldogs are now 19-9 overall this year and 13-6 in conference action. WSU improved to 17-10 overall and 12-8 in the GLIAC.
The Bulldogs will wrap up GLIAC regular-season play on Saturday (March 1) at Saginaw Valley State with tipoff set for 1 p.m. (ET) in University Center.
