Ferris State Battles To Finish In 1-0 Setback To Lindenwood To Open Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey squad went to the wire with visiting Lindenwood on Friday (Oct. 31) night, but came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs outshot the Lions 31-17 in the first-ever matchup between the two schools, however Lindenwood scored the only goal of the night in the second frame to come away with the win.

After a scoreless opening period, the Lions jumped on the board 8:02 into the second fame when Louis-Philippe Fontaine notched his fourth goal on a rebound chance near the FSU net. It was assisted by Jake Southgate and Ethan Zielke.

The goal stood despite opportunities for Ferris State to notch the equalizer in each of the final two periods. FSU outshot Lindenwood by a 14-2 margin in the final period.

Both teams failed to capitalize on three power-play opportunities as each team was whistled for four penalties totaling eight minutes.

Lindenwood's Liam Beerman earned the win in goal by making 31 saves on the night.

Meanwhile, sophomore Martin Lundberg earned the start in net for Ferris State nad finished with 16 saves in 57:19 between the pipes.

FSU's Josh Zary led the way with five total shots in the game and the Bulldogs won 27 of 52 faceoffs in the contest.

The two teams will play the series' finale on Saturday (Nov. 1) night with puck drop set for 7:07 p.m. (ET) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear black for the "Blackout" game.
