Ferris State Pulls Out Big Road Victory At Saginaw Valley State

SAGINAW, Mich. — The Ferris State University men's basketball team earned a big road win in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Feb. 14), defeating Saginaw Valley State 75-69 at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

The Bulldogs maintained a significant edge in rebounding, securing 43 boards compared to the Cardinals' 29.

FSU opened the game with a strong performance, taking an early 8–0 lead at the 15:37 mark with contributions from Mykel Bingham and Owen Hardy. Despite the Cardinals' efforts to close the gap, the Bulldogs maintained their edge throughout the half, highlighted by a late jumper from Hardy with 15 seconds remaining to secure a 30–28 lead at the end of the first half.

Ferris State opened the second half with a decisive 15–3 run, highlighted by Tae Boyd's layup at 16:21 and Chang Hoth's three-point play at 15:18, establishing a 43–33 lead. They maintained their momentum with consistent scoring from Boyd and Hoth, extending the lead to 52–37 by 12:39. Despite a late push by Saginaw Valley to narrow the gap to 66–65, FSU responded with clutch free throws from Boyd and Hoth to secure the half with a 45–41 score, ultimately ending the game 75–69 in the Bulldogs' favor.

Boyd led Ferris St. with 22 points, converting 50 percent of his field goals and making all four free-throw attempts. Hoth added 20 points and secured 100 percent accuracy from the free-throw line, making all nine attempts. Bingham contributed a double-double, scoring 8 points and collecting 12 rebounds while also recording two blocks. Hardy matched Bingham with 12 rebounds and posted 11 points, providing steady presence inside.

Xavier Thomas led the scoring for the Cardinals with 15 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field and grabbing six rebounds. Javontae Ross contributed with seven points and showcased defensive strength with two steals and a block, while also dishing out four assists. Dontez Scott II added 11 points, making three of his seven attempts from beyond the arc. Kevonne Taylor was notable on defense, recording two blocks and adding six points.

The Bulldogs won their 10th game of the season with the triumph.

FSU will be back in action on Monday (Feb. 16) evening as the Bulldogs visit Lake Superior State for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Sault Ste. Marie.
