Somers, Wis. — The Ferris State University men's basketball squad dropped the opening game of a four-game road swing on Saturday (Feb. 7) as FSU fell to Parkside 82-63 at De Simone Arena.
The Bulldogs secured 44 rebounds, matching the Rangers' total, but were unable to overcome a nine-point halftime deficit. FSU scored at least 63 total points for the 17th consecutive game, continuing their consistent scoring streak despite the loss.
Ferris State opened the first half with a steady performance, highlighted by Chang Hoth's 3-pointer at 17:17 off an assist from Mykel Bingham, giving them an early lead. Senior Brandon Claerbaut contributed significantly with a layup at 9:02 and a 3-pointer at 6:20, keeping the Bulldogs in contention. Despite these efforts, the Rangers' fast-break points and efficient scoring in the paint helped them finish the half ahead, leading 44–35.
The Bulldogs faced a challenging second half as the Rangers capitalized on turnovers and maintained a strong presence in the paint. Despite an early deficit, FSU responded with a series of successful plays, including a notable layup by freshman Keashaun Johnson at 15:25 and a 3-pointer by Tae Boyd at 15:00, reducing the gap. However, the Rangers continued to extend their lead with consistent scoring, ultimately closing out the home win.
Owen Hardy posted 10 rebounds and added two blocks. Joey Cabana scored 11 points and contributed two assists. Johnson finished with 10 points, converting 5 of 10 field goal attempts. Hoth recorded 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
Paxton Warden led the Rangers with 22 points, hitting 8 of 14 from the field and adding five free throws. He also contributed three assists and two steals. Luka Mateski scored 17 points, connecting on 7 of 15 attempts and securing six rebounds. Fawaz Surakat was a defensive force, recording five blocks and collecting 10 rebounds, alongside nine points. Braden McGlothlin added three steals and five points, complementing his solid defensive effort.
The Bulldogs fell to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in league play with the setback.
Ferris State will be back in action on Monday (Feb. 9) night as FSU visits Roosevelt for an 8:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt in downtown Chicago.
