Ferris State Returns From Holiday Break With High-Scoring Home Win

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ferris State University men's basketball squad returned from the holiday break in a big way, defeating Grace Christian in a decisive 110-74 victory on Tuesday (Dec. 30) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

In its final non-league game of the year, FSU shot an impressive 61.8% from the field, including 53.6% from beyond the arc, while collecting 29 assists in the game. The Bulldogs racked up 65 points in the second half of play.

Ferris State opened the first half with a strong offensive performance, highlighted by senior Mykel Bingham's layup at 19:46, assisted by Chang Hoth. The team maintained momentum with Bingham's defensive rebound and subsequent dunk at 17:34, assisted by Brandon Claerbaut. FSU continued to build on the lead with efficient scoring in the paint and perimeter, notably a three-pointer by Bryce Moore at 10:14, assisted by Claerbaut. By dominating both ends of the court, Ferris State concluded the half with a 45–31 advantage over Grace Christian.

The Bulldogs took control early in the second half with Owen Hardy's dunk assisted by Joey Cabana, extending the lead to 47-31 at 19:32. Bingham's three-pointer at 18:02 widened the gap further to 53-33. The home team maintained momentum with strong defensive efforts, including a steal and layup by Hoth at 17:47, pushing the score to 55-33. Moore and Cabana continued the offensive surge with successful three-pointers, helping Ferris State reach a commanding 92-58 lead at 6:12 remaining. Cabana's consistent playmaking was crucial, ending the game with a decisive assist to Keashaun Johnson for a three-pointer with 21 seconds remaining. Ferris State closed the half with a 65-43 advantage, securing the 110-74 victory at the final buzzer.

Bingham recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, contributing significantly on the boards. Cabana led the team offensively, scoring 22 points and dishing out eight assists while hitting five three-pointers. Moore added 21 points, converting four of his six attempts from beyond the arc. Hoth scored 17 points, including a perfect four-for-four from the free-throw line, and contributed four assists. Hardy and Johnson both netted 10 points.

FSU sank 15 three's in the game and also owned a 46-30 rebounding advantage for the night.

Keontae Richards led Grace Christian with 13 points, shooting five-for-13 from the field, including one three. Aiden Burns contributed 12 points, connecting on five of 16 attempts and adding six rebounds and three steals. Louie McCloud was a key playmaker with 11 points, seven assists, and four steals, while also hitting five of nine shots. Brayden Gable showcased defensive skills with seven rebounds and two steals, complementing his five points.

The Bulldogs dressed 10 players for the contest and all 10 played with nine reaching the scoring column and six scoring in double-digits while improving to 4-5 overall this campaign.

Ferris State will resume Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at home on Saturday (Jan. 3), hosting Roosevelt in Big Rapids with tipoff set for 3 p.m. (ET). FSU then faces Parkside on Monday (Jan. 5) evening starting at 7:30 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
