Ferris State Falls Short In Tightly-Contested Exhibition Battle Against Nationally-Ranked Calvin

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad battled to the finish and went back-and-forth with West Michigan foe Calvin University in a 82-75 exhibition setback on Wednesday (Oct. 29) night inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

In Ferris State's first matchup against another opponent this year, the Bulldogs took a 41-37 halftime lead before the Knights outscored FSU 45-34 in the second half for the win.

Calvin enters the 2025-26 season ranked 12th nationally in the NCAA Division II Preseason Rankings.

Ferris State was held to 26.9% shooting for the game, but the Bulldogs did connect on 28-of-32 (87.5%) free throws and sank 11 three's in the game. FSU also came up with 19 offensive rebounds and turned the ball over only 11 times.

Senior guard Tyler Hamilton led the Bulldogs with 16 points in the game, including a 10-of-10 showing at the free throw line, while senior Mykel Bingham had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Newcomers Hussein Elmaraghy and Chang Hoth added 15 points and 12 points off the bench, respectively, while senior Donovan Brown-Boyd had 11 points.

Calvin got a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds from standout center Jalen Overway while Parker Swartz contributed 22 points and went five-of-eight from three-point range. Jordan Scott tallied 18 points and Trevin Winkle finished with 10 points.

The Bulldogs got 45 points off their bench compared to only six for Calvin.

Overall, the game featured 14 lead changes and the score was tied 12 times.

Ferris State will open regular-season play in two weeks at the GLIAC/G-MAC Crossover in Midland, facing host Northwood to start the event on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. (ET). FSU then will play Lake Erie on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 3 p.m. (ET).
