Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2012 Ferris State Invitational will be held on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, at the Ewigleben Sports Arena and Jim Wink Arena within the Ewigleben Sports Complex on the campus of Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich.
This season, the tournament field is comprised of nine teams - Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.), Clarion (Pa.), Glenville State (W.Va.), Mercyhurst, Minnesota-Crookston, Northern Michigan, Northwood, West Virginia State and host Ferris State.
The two-day tourney will feature nine matches on Friday, Aug. 31, beginning at 9 a.m. (ET) with matches running throughout the day until the 7 p.m. (ET) finales. The final day of the tourney takes place on Saturday, Sept. 1, with another nine matches on the docket. Match times for Saturday also begin at 9 a.m. (ET) with the last match of the event starting at 5 p.m. (ET).
Ferris State is scheduled to play two contests per day, starting with its 2012 season opener versus Alderson-Broaddus on Friday at 4 p.m. (EDT) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena. Following that tilt, the Bulldogs entertain former Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Mercyhurst in a 7 p.m. (EDT) matchup.
In Saturday's (Sept. 1) action, FSU takes on West Virginia State at 1 p.m. (EDT) before wrapping up tourney play against Clarion (Pa.) in a 5 p.m. (EDT) encounter.
A total of 18 matches involving the nine teams will take place on the two courts in the two-day span.
Ticket prices for the 2012 Ferris State Invitational are $15 for an all-tournament pass (includes both days) or $10 for adults per day in addition to $3 for faculty, students, and grades K-12. Ferris State students with valid ID and children under the age of five will be admitted free of charge.
A season ago, Ferris State compiled a 4-0 record at the 2011 Ferris State Invitational en route to finishing the campaign with a 27-4 overall mark and the program's 14th consecutive winning season.
FSU is currently ranked 14th nationally in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II National Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs won the GLIAC North Division Championship while also reaching the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Semifinals in 2011. Ferris State finished as league co-champions after posting an 18-1 conference mark under head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm.
The Bulldogs return 11 letterwinners for the 2012 season, including a pair of All-GLIAC and all-region honorable mention selections in senior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) and senior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview).
