Big Rapids, Mich. - Media coverage plans have been announced for the Ferris State University women's volleyball squad's appearance in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament slated to be held Nov. 18-20 in Hillsdale, Mich.
Local radio flagship station Sunny 97.3 FM, in conjunction with the Bulldog Sports Network, will broadcast this Friday's (Nov. 18) quarterfinal-round outing against seventh-seeded Saginaw Valley State live from Jesse Philips Arena in Hilldale.
FSU Athletics Communications Director Rob Bentley will provide the play-by-play coverage for the contest, with first serve set for 2:30 p.m. (ET). Pregame coverage will begin one-half hour prior to match time at 2 p.m. (ET). It will mark the first live broadcast of Bulldog volleyball in more than a decade.
In addition to Sunny 97.3's live broadcast, the live audio feed will also be streamed online by the Bulldog Sports Network via the school's multimedia portal at www.ferrisstatebulldogs.com and can be found by clicking on the "Bulldog Sports Network" or "Audio" icon.
Both the regional semifinal and/or regional final will also be broadcasted on local radio and streamed to the web should the Bulldogs continue to advance in the regional tournament.
Besides the Bulldog Sports Network coverage, Hillsdale College will also provide live internet statistics for each game along with a free live video webcast. Ferris State, which is seeded second overall in the field, will go up against the tourney's number-seven seed Saginaw Valley State this Friday. It will be the second of four quarterfinal-round matches in the regional tournament.
Nationally eighth-ranked Hillsdale was chosen as the top seed and will host the regional tournament from Friday to Sunday (Nov. 18-20). Semifinals will take place on Saturday night with the championship match on Sunday.
Ferris State will be making its first NCAA-II Regional appearance since 2009 (Nov. 9) when the Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 decision to Lewis (Ill.) to Indianapolis, Ind. FSU's upcoming regional appearance will represent the program's 16th all-time as the Bulldogs have compiled a 7-16 overall record in NCAA Tournament competition.
Ferris State and Saginaw Valley State met twice earlier this season in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action with the Bulldogs beating the Cardinals by identical 3-0 scores both in Big Rapids (Oct. 1) and at University Center (Nov. 2).
Ferris State, which is coached by 16th-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, is presently 26-3 overall this campaign following a 3-0 setback to Hillsdale in the GLIAC Tournament Championship Match held Sunday (Nov. 13) afternoon at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids.
FSU captured the 2011 GLIAC North Division Championship this campaign with a 18-1 overall league mark and is presently ranked 12th nationally. SVSU owns a 18-10 record to date after falling to Hillsdale by a 3-1 count in Saturday's (Nov. 12) league tournament semifinals held at FSU.
The winners of each of the 2011 eight regionals will advance to the national finals (Dec. 1-3) which will be conducted on the campus of a participating institution.
