Big Rapids, Mich. –Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) of the 2011 Ferris State University women's volleyball team has earned this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week honor.
The honor comes as a result of her performance last week (Nov. 2-5) in three road match wins to conclude the 2011 regular season. Huntey totaled 53 kills in three matches during the week, helping the Bulldogs to a 3-0 mark. She tallied 22 kills apiece in both wins over Northwood and Lake Superior State (Nov. 4-5).
Huntey also reached double-digit digs in all three contests,with her highest output being 17 digs against Lake Superior State. She averaged 4.42 kills per set and finished the week with 4.79 points per game.
It marks the fourth time Huntey has received the honor this season as she also earned the nod the first week of the season and in three subsequent weeks (Sept. 7, Sept. 26, Oct. 15).
The announcement was made by the GLIAC office staff and sponsored by Hit Trophy.
Ferris State holds a 24-2 overall record this campaign and a 18-1 mark in GLIAC action. The Bulldogs are 13-0 at home to date this season.
The Bulldogs have secured the number one seed for the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament and will host Wayne State in the quarterfinal-round this Thursday (Nov. 10) evening at 7 p.m. (ET).
