FSU Women's Volleyball Nationally Ranked
Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2011 Ferris State University women's volleyball team has received national attention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as the Bulldogs are ranked 23rd in this week's (Sept. 19) Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll.
The Bulldogs received 96 total points in the weekly poll. Ferris State joins two other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schools in the poll. Hillsdale is currently placed tied for 10th (500 pts.) and the Grand Valley State Lakers are ranked three spots ahead of Ferris State at 20th (155 pts.) place. Northern Michigan and Ashland both received votes in the poll, but did not make the top 25 this week.
Concordia-St. Paul is ranked first for the second week in a row with 800 total points and 32 first place votes.
Ferris State, under 16th-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, is presently 8-1 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC play. The Bulldogs have won their past three consecutive matches and currently hold a 7-0 home record this campaign.
FSU hosts Findlay this Friday (Sept. 23) in a 12 p.m. (EDT) conference match at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Following that encounter, the Bulldogs will also host Hillsdale on Saturday (Sept. 24) and Wayne State on Sunday (Sept. 25) with both matches beginning at 2 p.m. (EDT).
