Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team continues to have success as they extended their home winning streak to six this Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-19) win against the Lake Superior State Lakers in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match in Big Rapids, Mich.
With the victory, the Bulldogs improve their record to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC's North Division. The record includes a 6-0 home mark. The Lakers fell to 2-5 overall record and 1-2 in the GLIAC.
The three-set match included a total of seven tied scores and only two lead changes. The first set held four tie scores and the third had three. The lead changes happened in the first and third sets as well. The second set proved to be an extremely successful one for the Bulldogs, who had 14 kills on 28 attempts for a team kill percentage of .429.
Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht (Alma) led the Bulldogs on the attack, tallying 10 kills in the match. Senior outside hitter Ashely Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) had a total of nine, to contribute to a team total of 38 overall. Junior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) killed seven of her attempted 15 attacks to gain a .467 kill percentage. Sutton had four kills in the first set.
Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) lead the match with 16 digs. Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) assisted on 32 kills. Huntey had a match-high five service aces in the three sets.
Ferris State will continue home arena action this Sunday (Sept. 18) against the Northwood Timberwolves. The actions begins at 2 p.m. (ET) at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids.
