The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has selected senior middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) of the 2010 Ferris State University women's volleyball team as the North Division's Women's Volleyball Player of the Week as announced this Monday (Oct. 25) by the conference office.

Goodson led Ferris State to a 1-1 record this past weekend (Oct. 22 and 24) in appearances against two GLIAC North Division opponents.  She registered a career match-high 38 points in the Bulldogs' five-set match at nationally-ranked Northern Michigan last Friday (Oct. 22) by hammering a career match-best 27 kills on a .489 hitting percentage.  The 6-2 middle hitter also totaled a match-high six service aces and six total blocks, which featured a season-match high four block solos.  In Sunday's (Oct. 24) 3-1 triumph at Michigan Tech, Goodson tallied a match-leading 17 kills en route to a .412 attack percentage.  She also contributed three service aces and digs apiece while garnering a pair of block assists.

For the week, Goodson averaged 4.89 kills per set and hit at a .457 clip in a combined nine sets.  She averaged 0.89 blocks a set and compiled a 6.56 points per set average (59.0 total points).

Goodson has currently received GLIAC weekly honors twice this season after initially garnering such recognition two weeks ago (Oct. 11).  She also earned conference division plaudits a season ago (Oct. 12).  With her two-time selection, Ferris State has now had one of its women's volleyball student-athletes honored for the third time this season as sophomore setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) attained conference kudos on Sept. 20.

This season to date, Goodson currently leads Ferris State in kills (331), kills per set (4.14), total blocks (70), block solos (19), and block assists (51) as a starter in all 20 FSU matches played in.  She presently has accumulated double-digit kills in 18 contests this campaign.

In her Ferris State career, Goodson has recorded 1,115 kills in 109 matches and is 26 kills away from moving into a 16th-place tie on FSU's all-time leaders list.  She has also produced 372 total blocks with 100 block solos and and 272 block assists to date.  Goodson currently ranks third among the Bulldogs' career statistical leaders in block solos and is listed 12th and 15th place in total blocks and block assists, respectively.  A 2009 All-GLIAC First Team and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Midwest Region Team selection, Goodson has compiled a current .245 attack percentage and is averaging 2.75 kills per set in 405 career set appearances.

Ferris State, which has produced a 12-9 overall record and is 8-6 in the GLIAC's North Division this season, will begin a regular-season ending five-match conference homestand starting this weekend (Oct. 30-31) at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.  The Bulldogs will host the Tiffin Dragons this Saturday (Oct. 30) at 2 p.m. (EDT) before facing the Ohio Dominican Dragons on Sunday (Oct. 31), starting at 2 p.m. (EDT) in a Halloween matchup.
