Sophomore Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) of the Ferris State University women's volleyball team has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic Women's Volleyball All-District IV College Division Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  The all-district teams were announced this Thursday (Nov. 5) by CoSIDA.

Huntey, a nursing major, was one of eight student-athletes to receive second-team accolades with the college division.

This season, Huntey has compiled a team fourth-best and career single-season high 204 kills and is averaging 2.00 kills per set while registering a .127 attack percentage for the 18-9 Ferris State team.  The 5-10 outside hitter has totaled a squad second-most and career season-best 315 digs and a 3.09 digs per set average.  She also has produced a career season-high 25 service aces, 27 total blocks, and 26 block assists as a starter in all 27 FSU matches to date.

Huntey has recorded 10 matches with double-digit kill totals this campaign, which includes a season-high 13 kills against Upper Iowa (9/4) at the St. Cloud (Minn.) State Tournament.  She also has currently accumulated 16 double-figure dig match performances this season.  Huntey earned all-tournament team laurels at the St. Cloud State Tournament (9/4-5) as she helped the Bulldogs tally a 3-1 tourney mark.

For her career, Huntey has presently generated 322 kills to go with a 1.50 kills per set average in 56 matches.  She has chalked up 64 assists, 47 service aces, 571 digs, 60 total blocks, four block solos, and 60 total blocks.

To be considered, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average, have reached sophomore standing both academically and athletically, have completed at least one full academic year at their current institution, and participated in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions.

The District IV team is comprised of colleges in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.  The three teams with each district are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within their respective districts.
