Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) of the 2009 Ferris State University women's volleyball team was selected as an all-tournament team member of this past weekend's (Sept. 4-5) St. Cloud (Minn.) State Tournament.
Huntey, who was the only Ferris State player chosen to the seven-member all-tournament squad, played an integral role in leading the Bulldogs to a 3-1 tourney mark. The 5-10 outside hitter compiled 40 total kills in the four matches and averaged 2.50 kills per set while hitting at a .259 clip. She recorded double-figure kills in three of the four contests, which included a career-high 13 kills in FSU's 3-2 tourney-opening win over previously unbeaten Upper Iowa last Friday (Sept. 4). Huntey generated 11 kills and had a .367 attack percentage in the team's tourney finale versus Missouri S&T (Sept. 5).
Huntey also compiled a team second-most 43 digs in tournament action with a 2.69 digs average and racked up six block assists. She also contributed a squad second-best tying five service aces for the Bulldogs, who currently sport a 6-3 overall record this campaign.
In the Bulldogs' 3-1 upset of nationally fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney last Friday (Sept. 4), Huntey hammered 10 kills and hit .258 while serving up three aces and tallying 13 digs.
Huntey is the second Ferris State player to earn all-tournament plaudits this season as senior middle hitter Sarah Lark (Alma) was named to the 2009 Ferris State Invitational All-Tournament Team last weekend (Aug. 28-29).
Ferris State will now begin a four-match homestand, starting with this Wednesday's (Sept. 9) non-conference match against Davenport. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. (EDT) at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.
