Kristy Gilchrist Receives GLIAC Honors For Second Consecutive Week

Ferris State University women's volleyball senior outside hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) picked up this week's (Sept. 14) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week honor for the second consecutive week as announced by the conference office.

For Gilchrist, the weekly league accolades bestowed upon her represent the second time this season in which she has received such recognition and the third time in her Ferris State career.

A 6-0 middle hitter, Gilchrist helped lead Ferris State to a 3-0 record this past week which included conference home victories over previously undefeated Wayne State, 3-2, last Friday (Sept. 11) and Northwood, 3-0, on Saturday (Sept. 12).  Gilchrist recorded a season-high tying 14 kills in the win over Wayne State while chalking up a season-best tying five total blocks (all blocks assists) in the match.  She then totaled 12 kills on 19 hitting attempts for a season-best .579 attack percentage in the sweep of Northwood. 

Gilchrist completed the week hitting at a .303 clip with an average of 3.09 kills per set while compling eight total blocks (seven block assists), three service aces, and 10 digs in the Bulldogs' three matches.

This season in 12 matches, Gilchrist is presently averaging 2.57 kills with 113 total for a .241 hitting percentage.  She also has served 13 aces while posting 35 total blocks (0.80 per set average), which includes 32 block assists, to go along with 48 digs (1.09 per set average).  She has registered double figures in kills six times this season and notched a double-double versus nationally-ranked Nebraska-Kearney (Sept. 4) as a result of a 14-kill, 11-dig performance.

Gilchrist and the Bulldogs, who are currently 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, will look to remain a top the GLIAC's North Division with three conference matches this week. Ferris State hosts archrival Grand Valley State this Tuesday (Sept. 15) at 7 p.m. (EDT) inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena at Big Rapids, Mich.  The Bulldogs then will travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for matches against Michigan Tech on Friday (Sept. 18) and Northern Michigan Saturday (Sept. 19).
