Tina Muir Claims GLIAC Weekly Award

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior runner Tina Muir (St. Albans, U.K.) has been honored as this week's (Jan. 26) recipient of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week Award.

Muir paced the Bulldog women's indoor track and field team at the Grand Valley State Bob Eubanks Open by winning two individual events last Friday (Jan. 22) inside the Laker Turf Building at Allendale, Mich.

The FSU standout took first place in the women's mile run while surpassing the NCAA Division II National Provisional Qualification standard with a time of 5:00.32 as the Bulldogs swept the top three spots and placed four of the top five finishers overall in the 35-runner event.

Muir also claimed the 3,000 meters by clocking 9:58 in topping a field of 52 participants. The meet represented her first action of the indoor campaign this season.

The non-scoring indoor competition included a large number of competitors from schools across the state and region such as FSU, GVSU, Saginaw Valley State, Tiffin, Davenport, Aquinas, St. Francis (Ind.), Bethel (Ind.), Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Calvin, Spring Arbor, Windsor (Ontario), Indiana Tech, Alma and others.

Ferris State returns to action in the Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Classic this Friday (Jan. 29) in University Center, Mich. The event is slated for a 4 p.m. (EST) start time inside SVSU's Ryder Center.
