Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team battled back to record a thrilling 5-4 win over Lake Superior State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Thursday (Sept. 22) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.
The Bulldogs trailed the visiting Lakers 2-1 after the doubles round, but came back to win four of the six singles flights to take the victory.
"Melissa Flowers had a key come from behind win to keep our hopes alive," said FSU head coach Alex Palladino.
Flowers fought back to win the number three singles position in three sets. After dropping the initial frame 6-4, she came back to claim the second and third sets by scores of 6-3 and 7-5, respectively.
The Bulldogs also received singles wins from Ana Jan at the number one position along with Laurence LeBlanc at the fifth flight and Mary Coleman in the number six spot. All three were straight-set winners.
In doubles play, the tandem of LeBlanc and Coleman registered an 8-1 win at the third flight.
Ferris State improved to 5-2 both overall and in league play with the triumph while LSSU suffered only its second loss of the year in falling to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
FSU will host Michigan Tech on Sunday, Sept. 25, in a 10 a.m. (ET) league home encounter at the Racquet and Fitness Center.
