Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team started its spring season off with a bang by beating the Lewis (Ill.) Flyers by an 8-1 count on Saturday (Feb. 20) morning at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldogs swept the doubles round and then captured the bottom five singles flights en route to the victory.

Lewis' lone win came at the number one singles position where Jana Schultz topped FSU junior Amy Ingle by a 6-3, 6-2 score.

Ferris, however, won the second thru sixth singles spots all in straight-sets and the three doubles encounters were all decided by scores of 8-3 or better.

Seven different Bulldog players contributed in the victory with each winning at least one match in the contest.

With the win, Ferris State improves to 9-5 overall this campaign after the Bulldogs had won eight of their 13 dual matches in the fall.

FSU will hit the court again next Saturday (Feb. 27) as the Bulldogs host Hope College in a 1 p.m. (EST) non-league tilt at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
