Ferris State University freshman Emily Rohdy (Farwell) captured her first medalist title at the collegiate level by winning a playoff at the Ohio Dominican Give 18 Fore Cancer Classic this past weekend (April 2-3) in Pataskala, Ohio, and as a result has been selected as this week's (April 5) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Women's Golf "Athlete of the Week" as announced this Tuesday (April 5) by the conference.
Rohdy registered a birdie on the second playoff hole to finish atop the individual leaderboard after tying junior Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) for first-place honors in the regulation 36-hole tournament. Rohdy carded a 159 score with rounds of 83 and 76, respectively in helping Ferris State win the Ohio Dominican Give 18 Fore Cancer Classic with a two-round 643-team stroke total.
This season, Rohdy has presently recorded a team fourth-best 81.47 stroke average (1,222 total strokes) in 15 rounds. She has accumulated three top 20-place performances, which includes two among the top five individuals. Rohdy turned in a fourth-place tying 161 score (80-81=161) at the Lake Superior State Invitational earlier this season (Sept. 11-12).
Rohdy is the second Bulldog women's golf athlete this season to receive a conference weekly honor. Junior Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) attained the weekly GLIAC Award during the fall season (Sept. 14).
Ferris State, which is presently listed sixth in the most recent (March 31) NCAA Division II East Region Rankings Poll, returns to the links this Friday (April 8) to face Grand Valley State in a dual match at the Pilgrims Run Golf Club in Pierson, Mich. The Bulldogs will then compete in the Detroit Titans Invitational on April 11-12 in Redford, Mich.
