Idoni's Big Night Lifts Ferris State To Season-Opening Road Triumph
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad pulled out a hard-fought 75-69 road win over Ohio Dominican in regional action on Friday (Nov. 11) night in Columbus, Ohio, as the Bulldogs emerged victorious in their season opener.
Ferris State trailed by four points at the end of the first quarter, but outscored ODU 23-14 in the second period to grab the halftime edge. The Panthers trimmed the margin down to two points after three, but FSU outscored Ohio Dominican 22-18 in the final quarter to garner the win.
Senior forward Chloe Idoni had an impressive game for the Bulldogs, scoring a contest-high 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting and an eight-of-eight effort at the free throw line. She added 11 rebounds in a double-double effort, including six offensive caroms, and totaled four steals and four blocks in the game.
While Idoni was the only FSU player to reach double-digits, the Bulldogs did get nine points each from junior guard Kadyn Blanchard and transfer guard Kenzie Bowers along with eight points from senior Mallory McCartney and seven by DeShonna Day in the starting lineup.
Overall, FSU shot 47% from the floor and went six-of-18 (33.3%) from long range along with 19-of-22 (86.4%) at the free throw line.
The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 28-25 and FSU forced 20 turnovers in the victory. FSU also had eight steals and five blocks in addition to 16 assists. McCartney paced the Bulldogs with five assists while Day had four.
Macy Chapman led five Ohio Dominican players in double-figure scoring with 16 points. ODU finished shooting 56.4% from the floor and converted five-of-seven (71.4%) free throws along with four-of-12 (33.3%) three's.
The Bulldogs will close out their season-opening regional road weekend by visiting Cedarville (Ohio) on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. (ET) contest in Cedarville, Ohio.
