Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University women's basketball sophomore guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) has been officially recognized as a 2011-12 Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team pick.
DeShone was recognized on Thursday (March 8) evening at a banquet held in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on the campus of Ashland University in Ohio. Nine of the 10 first or second team regional picks were in attendance and will compete in the regional field this weekend.
This season, DeShone has averaged 14.4 points and 4.6 assists per contest in leading the Bulldogs, the second seed in the regional tournament, to a 22-6 overall mark. FSU finished with a 17-2 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play this campaign and won the league's North Division Championship for only the second time in school history in addition to earning conference tournament runner-up honors. The standout guard was a GLIAC All-Tournament Team honoree last weekend.
DeShone and her Bulldog teammates will square off against Drury (Mo.) in the Midwest Regional quarterfinals on Friday (March 9) at 2:30 p.m. (ET) inside AU's Kates Gymansium. The winner will advance to the regional semifinals on Saturday (March 10) night with the title game set for Monday (March 12) evening.
Ashland junior guard/forward Kari Daugherty was named the Daktronics, Inc. Midwest Region Player of the Year in a vote by the region's sports information directors. Daugherty, the GLIAC Player of the Year, led the Midwest Region with 20.6 points and 13.7 rebounds per game in 2011-12.
Joining Daugherty on the Daktronics All-Midwest Region first team is Northern Kentucky senior guard Casse Mogan, Indianapolis junior guard Kristin Turner, Quincy senior forward Ali Schwagmeyer and Wisconsin-Parkside senior forward Brittany Beyer.
The all-region second team consisted of DeShone, Wisconsin-Parkside senior guard Jadee Rooney, Michigan Tech junior guard Sam Hoyt, Quincy senior forward Linsay Henke and Drury sophomore guard Bethanie Funderburk.
