The Midwest Regional is one of eight regional tournaments that comprise the 64-team NCAA field. The Midwest Regional champion will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight set for March 21-24 in San Antonio, Texas.
Friday's contest represents the first meeting this season between the Bulldogs and the Panthers.
In the Bulldogs' most recent trip to the NCAA-II Tournament, FSU won its first two games before bowing out in the 2007 NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen with a loss to Drury in the Great Lakes Regional title game at Romeoville, Ill.
The Bulldogs made their first NCAA-II appearance during the 1999-00 campaign and dropped a 90-77 decision to Missouri-St. Louis (3/9/00) in the opening round of the Great Lakes Regional held at Highland Heights, Ky. FSU advanced to the national tournament for the second time in 2003-04 and suffered a 82-69 loss to Ashland at Quincy, Ill.
The Bulldogs, who won the GLIAC North Division Championship for the second time in school history this season, will return to Ashland for the regional quarterfinals after playing their last two contests inside Kates Gymnasium this weekend (March 3-4) where FSU finished as the GLIAC Tournament Runner-Up after a 66-50 title game setback to nationally fourth-ranked Ashland.
