Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's basketball program recently inked prep guard Alexis Miller (Caledonia) to a national letter-of-intent. She will join the Bulldog program for the 2012-13 campaign in an announcement made by 14th-year head coach Tracey Dorow.
Miller scored 17 points per game for Caledonia High School as a junior in 2010-11 and is currently preparing for her senior campaign under head coach Joe Harvey. She helped Caledonia to a 13-8 overall record a year ago while also totaling four assists, three rebounds and two steals an outing.
"Lexi has developed into one of the best point guards in the state of Michigan and we're thrilled she has chosen to continue her career at Ferris State," said Dorow. "She's extremely quick with the ball and finds a way to setup her teammates for success.
"Additonally, she's a feisty defender and a fierce competitor who we expect will make an immediate impact in our program," she added.
The 5-7 Miller is a two-time All-Ottawa Kent Gold Conference honoree and was an all-area dream team pick a season ago. She also claimed all-state recognition while shooting over 56% from the field.
A three-year varsity player, Miller is also a three-time team captain and led Caledonia to a 16-5 record as a sophomore in 2009-10 while averaging 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals a contest. She owns the school's single-game steals record (10) and established a new school mark for seasonal free throw percentage in her junior campaign.
Last week, Miller was tabbed as one of the top 10 players to watch this season in West Michigan by the Grand Rapids Press.
Besides basketball, she's also played varsity volleyball for two seasons and claimed all-conference recognition. Miller is the daughter of Steve and Cherie Miller of Caledonia.
Ferris State is currently 2-1 overall this campaign and will open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on the road this week. FSU visits Tiffin on Thursday, Dec. 1, for a 6 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Tiffin, Ohio, before visiting Ohio Dominican for the first-time ever on Saturday, Dec. 3, with tipoff set for 1 p.m. (ET) in Columbus, Ohio.
