Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad placed sixth in the 2010-11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Preseason Poll, which was announced Thursday (Oct. 28) in conjunction with the official launch of the league's media day website.
Senior forward Tiara Adams (Lansing/Waverly) was also recognized as an All-GLIAC North Division Preseason Second Team selection.
Members of the media voted on this year's preseason poll while the league's respective head coaches and sports information directors took part in the voting for the preseason all-conference teams.
Grand Valley State was picked first in the 2010-11 GLIAC North Division Preseason Women's Basketball Media Poll with 17 first-place votes and 161 total points. Michigan Tech came in second with four first-place votes and 124 points while Northern Michigan claimed three first-place votes and 116 points in finishing third. Northwood placed fourth with one first-place nod and 103 points, Lake Superior was fifth with 90 points, sixth was Ferris State with 71 points and seventh was Saginaw Valley State with 35 points.
In the South Division, Findlay was picked first with 161 points and 15 first-place votes. Hillsdale earned ten first-place votes and a total of 158 points to finish second. Ashland was third with 126 points, Wayne State was fourth with 83 points followed by Lake Erie in fifth with 64 points. Tiffin was sixth with 63 points while Ohio Dominican placed seventh with 45 points.
Northwood senior guard/forward Pam Wilson was tabbed as the GLIAC's Preseason Player of the Year. A total of five individuals were named to both the preseason first and second teams in each respective division.
The Ferris State women's basketball team concluded the 2009-10 season with an 8-19 overall record. The Bulldogs were 7-15 in GLIAC action and won their final two regular-season contests.
The Bulldog women's basketball squad will hit the court for the first time with an exhibition game at NCAA Division I Oakland on Friday, Nov. 5, in Rochester Hills, Mich. FSU then officially opens the 2010-11 season by hosting Edinboro (Pa.) on Saturday, Nov. 20, in a 1 p.m. (ET) non-league tilt at Wink Arena.
