Ashley Fleming Named To All-Tourney Team
Ferris State University women's basketball senior forward/center Ashley Fleming (Posen/Rogers City) wrapped up her collegiate career by being named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) All-Tournament Team this past weekend.
The 6-1 Fleming was one of six players honored by the league following the conclusion of the annual postseason tournament on Saturday (March 7) evening in Houghton, Mich. In addition to Fleming, the all-tournament team included three players from tournament champion Hillsdale in Katie Cezat (MVP), Brooke Knight and Janay Miller along with two individuals from host Michigan Tech's runner-up squad in Danae Danen and Katie Zimmerman.
Fleming concluded her collegiate career by totaling a team-best 16 points and five rebounds in Friday's (March 6) 71-53 setback to nationally 18th-ranked Michigan Tech during the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals inside MTU's Student Development Complex Gymnasium. She was the lone Bulldog player to reach double-figure scoring in the game.
A two-time GLIAC All-Academic Team selection, Fleming helped the Bulldogs advance to the GLIAC Semifinals for the third-straight year by scoring a team-best 14 points with six rebounds in FSU's 73-68 quarterfinal-round road upset of third-seeded Northwood last Tuesday (March 3) at Midland, Mich.
Fleming ranked as FSU's second-leading scorer (9.7 ppg.) and top rebounder (5.4 rpg.) this season. She started 25 of 27 contests and also posted a team-high 21 blocked shots. Fleming netted 11 double-figure scoring games this year, including nine of her final 12 contests and had four double-double (points & rebounds) efforts in that stretch.
In 93 career outings, Fleming compiled 542 points with 303 rebounds. Her 49 career blocked shots ranks fifth on the school's all-time charts and her .521 (209-401) career field goal percentage is listed sixth on FSU's career leaders list. Fleming's 261 points and 146 rebounds this campaign were personal bests in her FSU career. She earned GLIAC North Division All-Defensive Team laurels for her efforts this season and was also a GLIAC North Division Player of the Week selection this year.
Ferris concluded the year with a 13-15 overall record after winning seven of its final nine contests. The Bulldogs also made their 10th consecutive and 11th overall berth in the GLIAC Tournament.
