Weather and Field Conditions Cancel Ferris State Softball's Home Opener

The Ferris State University softball team's 2011 season home opener for this Tuesday (March 29) afternoon against the Davenport Panthers has been cancelled due to cold weather and unplayable field conditions at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

At this time, the non-conference doubleheader between the two schools will likely not be rescheduled.  Several inches of snow remain on the FSU Varsity Softball Field as a result of cold temperatures.

Ferris State, which is presently 6-12 overall and 3-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) North Division this season, is slated to host the Aquinas Saints this Thursday (March 31) in a non-league twinbill at Big Rapids.  The opening game will get underway at 4 p.m. (EDT) with game two to follow around 6 p.m. (EDT).

The Bulldogs, under 14th-year head coach Keri Becker, will entertain the Lake Superior State Lakers this weekend (April 2-3) in a pair of GLIAC North Division doubleheaders at the FSU Varsity Softball Field.  Opening pitch for this Saturday's (April 2) twinbill is at 1 p.m. (EDT) for game one and 3 p.m. (EDT) for the game two.  On Sunday (April 3), the Bulldogs and Lakers square off at noon (EDT) in the opener proceeded by the second game around 2 p.m. (EDT).
