Big Rapids, Mich. - A schedule change has been announced involving the Ferris State University softball team for this Sunday, May 1.
The Bulldogs, who were slated to visit Wayne State for a league twinbill, will instead host Northwood in conference action beginning with game one at 12 p.m. (ET). The second game will follow at approximately 2 p.m. (ET).
Due to the large number of rainouts involving league teams this spring, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) determined which teams will face each other on the final day of regular-season competition based on several factors, including travel impact, divisional competition along with postseason implications and the final league standings.
Sunday's doubleheader will feature a special "home run derby" between games for anyone who is interested. Individuals can sign up during the first game and prizes will be awarded to the top three hitters. Free peanuts and pop will also be given to the first 25 students in attendance.
The rescheduled outing represents the fourth different scheduled date for the Ferris State-Northwood twinbill. The two teams were originally slated to face each other last Wednesday (April 20) before weather forced it to be rescheduled for Tuesday (April 26). It was then postponed until Wednesday (April 27) due to more wet weather before being called off again.
Prior to hosting Northwood in the regular-season finale, Ferris State first hits the road to take on Hillsdale in a four-game set on Friday and Saturday (April 29-30) with two twinbills each day. Friday's action begins at 3:30 p.m. (ET) with Saturday's two games starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
The Bulldogs are currently 16-20 overall and 13-11 in GLIAC play this campaign.
