Big Rapids, Mich. - After playing seven consecutive road
matches, including five on a spring break trip to Missouri and
Kansas, the Ferris State University men's tennis team will finally
return home to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(GLIAC) play with a pair of duals this weekend at the FSU Racquet
and Fitness Center.
The Bulldogs will host Lake Superior State in their first
conference match on Saturday (March 20) with match time set for 11
a.m. (EDT). FSU then wraps up the weekend by facing Michigan
Tech on Sunday (March 21) in a 10 a.m. (EDT) league match.
Ferris State enters this weekend's homestand with a 3-5 overall
record to date and all five setbacks have came against either NCAA
Division I competition or teams ranked higher in the NCAA Division
II National Rankings.
FSU is presently listed 44th nationally in the Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) Division II poll along with fourth in the
Midwest Regional Rankings.
FSU senior Ahmet Demir is currently the
region’s 14th-ranked singles player while the tandem of
Justin Hermes and Jack Swan is
ninth in the regional doubles listing.
Saturday's match versus LSSU will begin a span of three home
matches in four days as the Bulldogs will also host Albion next
Tuesday (March 23) in a 3 p.m. (EDT) non-league tilt at the FSU
Racquet & Fitness Center.
FSU began the season with three consecutive victories, including a
5-4 home triumph over Lewis in its first official contest (Feb.
20), which has also been the Bulldogs’ only home encounter to
date this season.
The Bulldogs will play seven conference matches this season prior
to the 2010 GLIAC Tournament, which will be held April 17-18 in
Midland, Mich.
