M&W Tennis Award Winners Announced

Big Rapids, Mich. - Third-year head coach Alex Palladino recently announced Ferris State University's team award recipients for the respective 2009-10 men's and women's tennis campaigns.

Senior Kyle Revall was honored with the men's Most Valuable Player Award for his efforts on the court this past season. Meanwhile, junior Amy Ingle claimed the same recognition for the women's program for the third consecutive year.

Revall, who ranked 12th in this spring's ITA Division II Midwest Regional Singles Rankings, received All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) laurels for the first time this campaign and posted an 8-7 overall record this year at the number one singles position.  He posted a 4-3 individual ledger in GLIAC singles matches and won five of his last eight decisions overall.  In doubles play, Revall teamed with junior Steven Roberts at the top flight to record a 4-3 mark in GLIAC competition and a 7-12 overall record.  They won seven of their last 11 matches as a duo.

The 6-1 Revall concluded his Bulldog career with a 22-18 singles mark along with a 19-25 record in doubles play over the course of his two-year Bulldog stint. He was also honored as this year's ITA Midwest Region Arthur Ashe Award recipient for Leadership and Sportsmanship.

The 5-4 Ingle recorded an 11-10 overall singles record and was 11-9 in doubles play this year. An All-GLIAC First Team pick, Ingle won six of her nine GLIAC matches at the number one flight in the FSU lineup. Meanwhile, she registered a 5-3 league doubles record in dual action at the top spot in the lineup while pairing with senior Tiffany Rheynard. Currently, Ingle owns a 34-33 career singles ledger and is 31-35 in doubles action during her Bulldog career to date.

Most Improved Player Awards were given to men's junior player Steven Roberts and sophomore Melissa Flowers on the women's side. Roberts picked up GLIAC recognition for the first time in his collegiate career.  As the squad's number five singles player, he went 6-1 in GLIAC matches and posted a team-leading 12-4 overall record this year in addition to his doubles showing at the number one flight with Revall.  The 2009-10 season represents Roberts' first official action in a Bulldog uniform.

The 5-9 Flowers finished with a 13-6 singles record this season, including an impressive 8-1 record in league competition. Flowers, who split time between the number four and five positions in the lineup, also was 16-5 in doubles action. Flowers owns current career totals of 23-18 (singles) and 23-19 (doubles).

Finally, Palladino recognized two players with team Sportsmanship Awards. Junior Justin Hermes was the men's honoree and senior Daniela Dimas claimed the women's award.

Hermes owned a 9-8 overall record this campaign in singles play and was 5-2 in GLIAC competition.  He and sophomore Jack Swan posted a 10-10 doubles mark, including a 10-9 record at the second flight.  The duo was ranked as high as ninth in the ITA Division II Midwest Regional Doubles Rankings this season. Overall, Hermes holds career marks of 26-16 (singles) and 26-19 (doubles) in his three seasons with the Bulldogs to date.

Finally, Dimas wrapped up her Bulldog career with a 17-16 singles performance and was 20-23 overall in doubles play at FSU. This past season, she had her most productive campaign with an 12-1 mark in singles competition and a 16-5 showing in doubles matches. Dimas won 11 of her 12 singles matches at the sixth spot in the lineup and also went 15-5 overall at the third doubles position.

The Ferris State men's team, which concluded the year with a 12-8 overall record, made its 13th consecutive and 16th overall NCAA-II Regional Tournament appearance in 2009-10. FSU placed third overall at the 2010 GLIAC Men's Tennis Tournament following a second-place (6-1) league regular-season finish under Palladino.

The Bulldog women wrapped up the year with a 12-9 overall record and finished 5-4 in the GLIAC's regular-season before placing fifth at the league's women's tennis tournament.  The Ferris women's team also made its first NCAA regional tournament appearance since 2007 this campaign.
