Bulldogs Bounce Back Headed to Off Weekend

Ferris State drove home a 4-1 victory over the Canisius Golden Griffins in non-conference action on Saturday (Oct. 15), inside Ewigleben Ice Arena. A total of 10 different Bulldogs picked up a point while sophomore goaltender Noah Giesbrecht put together a strong 29-save performance for his first victory of the campaign. Ferris State used a four-goal run to blow past the Griffins, with four different scorers tapping in on the score sheet. Matt Slick netted his first goal as a Bulldog, while Stepan Pokorny took the team goal-scoring lead (3) on the night. Mitch Deelstra and Dallas Tulik also registered goals on the evening, and Giesbrecht picked up an assist, his first collegiate point, on Slick's goal to cap the strong effort.

Taking Center Stage

Ferris State's top two centermen have been some of the most productive in the CCHA this season. Headed into the off-week, Ferris State sophomore forward Bradley Marek was the fourth-leading scorer in the country (2-4-6), pacing the Bulldog offensive attack at a point-per-game rate. The reigning CCHA Rookie of the Year is tied for second in the league in point scoring. Marek also is the CCHA's leading faceoff man at a blistering 63.4 percent, leading all CCHA skaters in face off wins. For Marek, his three-game point streak has him boasting five points on the run, including two multi-point efforts.

Much like Marek, Stepan Pokorny has been a force for the Bulldogs, tied for fifth nationally and third in the CCHA in point scoring (3-2-5). Pokorny is second in the CCHA in goal scoring (3), and is, like Marek, a point-per-game customer (5 games played). Pokorny is, like Marek, one of the top face off men in the CCHA (56.6 percent), on 51 wins in 90 attempts, good for sixth-best amongst CCHA centermen with more than 60 tries in the dot.

Giesbrecht Dazzles Against Canisius

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Noah Giesbrecht had his shutout bid spoiled in the final seven minutes, but ultimately made 29 stops on 30 shots for his first win of the campaign. Giesbrecht made 13 power play saves as well, with Canisius going on the man advantage on a major power play just 2:45 into the contest. In the second period, Giesbrecht swept a puck up the left wing wall ahead to senior defenseman Matt Slick, who took it the length of the ice for his first goal as a Bulldog. The assist was the first collegiate point for Giesbrecht, and the first assist by a Bulldog goalie since January 31, 2020.
