Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team will receive nationwide television coverage this weekend and special "watch parties" are planned at two different local establishments for fans wanting to watch the Bulldogs in action.
Ferris State will play its final two Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) regular-season games ever on Friday and Saturday (March 1-2) against the Michigan Wolverines at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor.
Friday's game against the Wolverines will be televised live in both the United States and Canada by CBS Sports Network while Saturday's game will air across the country on Fox Sports Detroit.
Local Bulldog fans and students are invited to watch both games live during the special "watch parties" at both Crankers Brewery and Restaurant along with Buffalo Wild Wings in Big Rapids.
The CBS Sports Network is carried via DirecTV on channel 613 along with channel 158 on Dish Network and both are available in HD. Meanwhile, Fox Sports Detroit is offered via DirecTV on channel 663 along with channel 430 on Dish. Both stations are also carried on many local cable and satellite providers across the country and fans are encouraged to check their local listings for availability.
Ferris State has received significant regular-season television exposure throughout this season and won its last three major nationally-televised games to date. The Bulldogs' televised contests this season have already included games on Fox Sports Detroit, Comcast and CBS College Sports Network. In all, FSU will have been featured six times in regular-season action on the three networks following this weekend's games, including most recently a Feb. 16 home game versus Bowling Green State at the Ewigleben Ice Arena, which was part of Fox Sports Detroit's "Hockey Day In Michigan" coverage.
Earlier this year, the Bulldogs skated to a 5-0 series-opening win over Michigan inside FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena (Nov. 30) before battling to a 3-3 overtime draw against the Wolverines the following night (Dec. 1) in Big Rapids.
The two contests at Yost Ice Arena will help determine the Bulldogs' postseason playoff fate. The Bulldogs, who were idle this past weekend, are presently tied with Ohio State for fourth place in the league standings with 42 points on the year. The two teams are guaranteed to square off against each other in the second round of the postseason playoff tournament in a best-of-three series set for March 15-17.
The official site for the second-round series pitting the fourth and fifth overall seeds will not be known until the conclusion of regular-season play this coming week. Ohio State must visit league leader Miami (Ohio) for a two-game set to wrap up the regular-season the same two nights. Whomever registers the most points this weekend between Ferris State and Ohio State will play host to the second-round playoff series.
