FSU Holding Free Clinic As Part Of Hockey Weekend Across America
Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University will participate in the sixth annual Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by CCM, which will be celebrated this weekend (Feb. 15-17) across the United States.
The Bulldog men's ice hockey team hosts Bowling Green State in its last Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) regular-season home game on Saturday (Feb. 16) night at 5:05 p.m. (ET) and the event will be televised live nationally by Fox Sports Detroit as part of Warrior "Hockey Day In Michigan".
In addition, the Ferris State Ice Arena and the FSU Club Hockey Team will be hosting a free clinic on Saturday in conjunction with Hockey Weekend Across America. The clinic will be held at the Ewigleben Ice Arena from 1-2 p.m. (ET) and participants can arrive at 12:30 p.m. to receive equipment.
To register for the free clinic, please visit www.tryhockeyforfree.com and then type 49307 to register for the Ferris State clinic. The clinic is free of charge, and includes equipment, skates and giveaways. It is open to ages 4-10 along with IP level 1 and 2 participants. Those interested and also asked to encourage their children to invite friends who would like to try hockey!
The "Hockey Weekend Across America" iniative is a nationwide effort to encourage and support the growth of the game of hockey. Each of the three days of Hockey Weekend Across America has a theme, including Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey, sponsored by ShopUSAHockey.com on Friday; Try Hockey Day, sponsored by the National Hockey League on Saturday; and Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes on Sunday.
The HockeyWeekendAcrossAmerica.com website contains a list of activities across the country for hockey fans and players to get involved in.
"Wear Your Favorite Jersey Day" on Friday (Feb. 15) is the day for fans to show off their hockey pride by wearing their prized hockey jerseys. Fans are encouraged to submit their photos to USA Hockey's Facebook and Twitter pages. Use the hashtag #HWAA for Twitter posts.
On Saturday (Feb. 16), some 200 rinks nationwide, including Ferris State, will host "Try Hockey for Free" clinics, allowing thousands of children to experience hockey for the first time.
To cap off the weekend, "Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes" day on Sunday (Feb. 17) encourages hockey programs nationwide to develop ways to honor their local hockey heroes. USA Hockey invites all to post stories about their hockey hero on HockeyWeekendAcrossAmerica.com.
Hockey Weekend Across America was created by USA Hockey in 2008 to engage the hockey community in celebrating the sport of hockey at all levels and exposing the sport to new audiences.
A total of nine NCAA and 21 NHL games will be televised during Hockey Weekend Across America. On Saturday (Feb. 16), the eighth annual Hockey Day in Michigan will be celebrated in cooperation with the CCHA. Fox Sports Detroit has an NCAA men's ice hockey doubleheader featuring CCHA rivals Bowling Green at Ferris State along with Northern Michigan at Michigan State. On Friday, Fox Sports Detroit will broadcast the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Anaheim Ducks.
Throughout the weekend, Fox Sports Detroit will also air special features about hockey in Michigan. A total of 20 Try Hockey for Free" clinics will be conducted over the weekend in the Great Lakes State.
