Ferris State's CJ Motte Tabbed As CCHA Goaltender Of The Month

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) announced today (Jan. 30) that Ferris State sophomore CJ Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) has been named the league's Gongshow Goaltender of the Month for January.

Motte appeared in six games for Ferris State during the month of January, posting a 5-1-0 record with one shutout. His 1.34 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage were tops in the league for January, as he allowed just eight goals and made 148 saves on the month.

The St. Clair, Mich., native made his first appearance on Jan. 5 where he posted a 3-0 shutout win at Michigan State with a 23-save performance. Motte suffered his only loss of the month on Jan. 11 against Ohio State, but rebounded the following night by blocking 25 shots in a 3-1 win over the Buckeyes.

The following weekend the Bulldogs met the Spartans again in a home-and-home series, where Motte backstopped Ferris State to a pair of wins, 2-1 and 5-2, stopping 44 shots. That performance earned him Warrior CCHA Goaltender of the Week honors. In his final game of January, the 6-foot-0, 190-pound goaltender extended his win streak to four games, stopping 32 shots in a 3-1 victory at Notre Dame.

Special mention for the Gongshow Goaltender of the Month honors goes to Alaska freshman John Keeney, Miami freshman Ryan McKay and Western Michigan sophomore Frank Slubowski.

In addition to Motte's recognition, Ferris State senior forward Travis Ouellette was also among the special mention honorees for the CCHA Warrior Player of the Month honor.

The Bulldogs will host nationally sixth-ranked Western Michigan this weekend (Feb. 1-2) in a league series at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids.  The two national powers will collide beginning at 7:05 p.m. (ET) both nights.

Currently, only general reserved tickets for this weekend remain available and fans can purchase tickets for $17 in advance or $19 on gameday by visiting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office located inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex or by calling (231) 591-2888.  Tickets can also be bought online at StarTickets.com.
