Big Rapids, Mich. - "Rivalry" weekend is on tap in Big Rapids as the Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads along with the Bulldog Hockey team are all slated to be in action at home.  Fans are encouraged to "wear red" for all events.

The Ferris State hockey team will host the nationally sixth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 1-2) nights at 7:05 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena.  The Broncos enter the weekend series between the two national powers in first place in the league standings and FSU is fourth, but only five points separates the top four teams in the conference with six points on the line.

On Saturday, Bulldog fans will be treated to a tripleheader as all three teams are in action inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex. The Bulldog men's and women's basketball teams host archrival Grand Valley State for the first time this season in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. The men's game between the Bulldogs and the Lakers will tipoff first at 1 p.m. (ET) followed by the women's contest at 3 p.m. (ET) with hockey to follow.

In addition to all the action, the FSU Alumni Association will also hold its annual "Tailgate On Ice" event this Friday night in the multi-purpose room at the sports complex starting at 5:30 p.m.  Fans can call the alumni office at (231) 591-3739 for more information on the event.  Saturday's activities include a postgame autograph session following Bulldog Hockey along with the Lake Osceola State Bank $10,000 Shootout during the hoops action.

The Bulldogs have presently sold out nine of their last 16 hockey home games dating back to last season, including three of the past five outings at the Ewigleben Ice Arena this campaign. This weekend's series represents the final CCHA regular-season series against the rival Broncos.  FSU is 4-1 to date in its last five outings and has won six of its past eight games overall.

Meanwhile, the Ferris State men's basketball team is coming off back-to-back league wins over divisional leader Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State last weekend.  FSU holds a current 10-8 overall record and is 9-5 in the GLIAC North Division entering Saturday's showdown against the Lakers, who are 14-4 overall and 11-3 in the conference.  The Bulldog men have won seven consecutive home contests inside Wink Arena this season.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs own a current 10-7 overall record and are now 9-5 in GLIAC play. They've won eight of their last 12 contests overall, but are coming off two close setbacks to WSU and SVSU last weekend in conference action.  GVSU is tied with FSU in the divisional standings as the Lakers own a current 13-5 mark and are also 9-5 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State has currently sold out of all remaining "Dawg Pound", group sales and the special two for $25 tickets for this weekend's hockey series versus Western Michigan.  General reserved tickets for the premium contest, which are $17 in advance or $19 on gameday, remain available with fans encouraged to purchase tickets immediately to guarantee a seat for the weekend action as potential sellout crowds are expected.

Fans can purchase general reserved seats by visiting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office located inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex or by calling (231) 591-2888.  The ticket office will remain open Wednesday evening until 7 p.m. (ET) and normal business hours on Thursday are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  In addition, the box office will open on Friday at 9 a.m. and remain open thru game time.
