Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University fans in Florida over the holidays will have a special opportunity to watch the nationally-ranked Bulldog men's ice hockey team in action as they return to the Sunshine State.
The Bulldogs are slated to compete in the Florida College Hockey Classic on Dec. 28-29 in Estero, Fla., and tickets are available for the event, which will take place at Germain Arena, the home of the East Coast Hockey League's (ECHL) Florida Everblades.
Ferris State will face Cornell in a rematch of the 2012 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship game in the opening game of the event on Friday, Dec. 28, at 4:05 p.m. (ET). The second contest pits returning NCAA Tournament participants Maine and Minnesota-Duluth at 7:05 p.m. (ET).
Saturday's (Dec. 29) consolation and championship games also begin at 4:05 and 7:05 p.m. (ET), respectively.
Ferris State fans can purchase tickets directly from the Germain Arena Box Office by calling Marcos Jimenez at (239) 948-7825, extension 1023. There will be no fee for phone orders.
Ticket prices have been set for $23 for rows 1 thru 7 or $17 for rows 8 and above. Bulldog fans will have a designated seating location in sections 104 and 105.
In the Bulldogs' last trip to Florida last April, FSU made its first-ever NCAA Frozen Four appearance and reached the national championship game before falling to Boston College at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
All four teams involved in this year's field reached the NCAA Tournament last season. It will mark the Bulldogs' first appearance in the event. Both Maine and Cornell have been part of the field since the event's inception in 2000 while Minnesota-Duluth will be making its second appearance in the event.
In 2000, Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush decided to bring the excitement of Division I men's college hockey to Southwest Florida. Thus began the annual Florida College Classic. Every December hockey fans in Southwest Florida have the opportunity to watch some of the top NCAA men's hockey teams and many former players in the event have eventually worn the green and blue of the Florida Everblades as professional players.
In addition to hosting Florida Everblades hockey, Germain Arena offers a wide variety of choice entertainment as Southwest Florida's premier entertainment venue. Since the arena opened in 1998, it has hosted NHL, NBA, USBL, and Arena football games. Germain Arena has also hosted more than 300 different entertainment events.
The arena also includes the Breakaway Sports Pub, a restaurant overlooking the arena bowl, catering, meeting space, luxury suites, a pro shop and two adjacent recreational ice rinks. Germain Arena is a centrally located facility with a seating capacity of approximately 7,000 for most events.
The facility is just minutes from Naples and Ft. Myers off of I-75 at Exit 123 in the growing Southwest Florida community of Estero.
