Big Rapids, Mich. - A record crowd was on hand for the 2012 Bulldog Hockey Classic-Alumni Golf Outing, which was held this past Saturday (Aug. 4) at FSU's Katke Golf Course.
A total of 42 teams and nearly 170 golfers took part in the 26th annual event on Katke Golf Course's 21-hole championship course. The record number of golfers came on the heels of the Bulldogs' memorable 2011-12 campaign, which included a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Regular-Season Championship and a berth into the Frozen Four for the first time where FSU reached the national championship game.
The weekend activities also included the annual Little Kevin Softball Game at Hemlock Park in Big Rapids on Friday night, which pitted local heroes from the police and firefighters force against Bulldog Hockey alumni. All proceeds raised from a 50/50 drawing went to the Mecosta County Community Foundation. A postgame reception also took place for players, family and friends and was sponsored by the FSU Blueline Club.
Saturday's events included a morning reception for former players and coaches along with lunch at the course prior to the 18 holes of golf. A dinner and awards ceremony followed at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center.
The Bulldog Hockey Classic-Alumni Golf Outing regularly draws former and notable Bulldog Hockey players for both the softball and golf events. This year's event included past standouts such as current Pittsburgh Penguins forward Chris Kunitz along with recent All-Americans now playing professionally such as Zach Redmond and Pat Nagle.
Additionally, seven of the Bulldogs' eight senior members from the national runner-up team also took part in their first golf outing as FSU alumni.
