Big Rapids, Mich.- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) on Thursday (March 8) named the top three 2011-12 finalists for six major individual awards and the nationally second-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey program was well-represented among the list of potential honorees.

Bulldog defensemen Chad Billins (Marysville) and Scott Czarnowczan (Macomb) are both in contention for top league honors in seperate categories while FSU head coach Bob Daniels is one of three nominee for CCHA Coach of the Year accolades.

Billins, who is a team co-captain and also a 2011-12 All-CCHA First-Team selection, is up for both RBC Player of The Year honors and is a finalist for the Best Offensive Defenseman Award. He is currently tied for first among league defensemen with 18 assists on the year and led the Bulldogs in conference scoring with 25 points overall.

Meanwhile, Czarnowczan is a finalist for the Best Defensive Defenseman Award. He has led the squad to date with a plus 16 rating and 65 blocked shots and is also second among team defensemen in scoring with two goals and 15 assists.

Now in his 20th year behind the FSU bench, Daniels is up for CCHA Coach of the Year recognition for the second time in the last three years. Daniels was previously honored as CCHA Coach of the Year after the 2002-03 season and was one of three finalists in 2009-10. This season, Daniels has guided the team to a 22-9-4 overall mark and a 16-7-5-1 record in the league while earning the CCHA Regular Season Title for the first time since 2002-03 and only the second time in program history.

The winners will be announced during the CCHA Awards Show presented by RBC Financial Group, which kicks off CCHA Championship Weekend on Thursday, March 15. The banquet, an Academy Awards-style event with music videos and highlights, is held at the historic Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit. The event begins with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. and the Awards Program starts at 7:30 p.m. Awards tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the CCHA at (248) 888-0600 or at the door the day of the event.

FSU will host Bowling Green State in the CCHA Tournament Second Round this weekend, March 9-11, at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids.  Opening faceoff on both Friday and Saturday along with Sunday, if necessary, is set for 7:05 p.m. (ET).
