Bulldogs Crack Top 10 In Two National Polls

Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2011-12 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has climbed in the three primary collegiate hockey polls this week after sweeping nationally-ranked Michigan State in a 2-1 decision last Friday (Jan. 27) night followed by a 4-3 victory versus the Spartans in Saturday's (Jan. 28) series finale at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

FSU is currently listed sixth nationally this week's U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll with 716 points including one first place vote. The team is also now in the seventh spot with 317 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I poll and are ranked 13th in the Inside College Hockey.com (INCH) rankings.

The Bulldogs, under 20th-year head coach Bob Daniels, currently boast a 17-8-3 overall record and have a 11-6-3-(1) Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) record.

The sixth-place national ranking in the USCHO poll matches the program's highest of the year as FSU was also ranked in the same position for the October 24, November 14 and November 28 polls. The U.S. College Hockey Online Poll consists of 50 voters encompassing 28 coaches from the NCAA Division I conferences along with 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll is published weekly by the Associated Press. FSU previously was ranked 10th last week in the USCHO poll.

The historic 2002-03 Bulldog hockey team, which registered a school-record 31-10-1 overall mark and the program's first-ever CCHA Regular-Season Championship and NCAA Tournament berth, earned a season-high fourth place national ranking by USCHO late in that memorable season on March 10, 2003.

After being ranked 12th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll last week, the Bulldogs jumped to the number seven spot with 317 votes. The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll is conducted on a weekly basis in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world. Earlier this season, the Bulldogs had a sixth-place ranking in this poll, which marked the highest in program history.

Finally, FSU also rose from the 16th spot to 13th in the Inside College Hockey.com poll this week. Inside College Hockey.com's Poll is generated through Inside College Hockey editors and staff.

Minnesota-Duluth owns the top spot in the USCHO.com poll with 959 points and the Inside College Hockey.com poll. The University of Minnesota owns the top spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll with 179 votes.

Ferris State will embark on a trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this weekend (Feb. 2-3) to face the nationally 19th-ranked Northern Michigan Wildcats at the Berry Events Center in Marquette.  Action gets underway on both Friday and Saturday nights at 7:35 p.m. (ET).
