Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University Bulldogs capped off an outstanding weekend with a perfect 4-0 mark and three teams in first place in their respective conference races as the end of January approaches.

The nationally 10th-ranked Bulldog Hockey team posted a 4-3 win over Michigan State on Saturday (Jan. 28) to move into sole possession of first place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) standings.  FSU also beat the 16th-ranked Spartans by a 2-1 score on Friday (Jan. 27) in the series opener at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids.

This weekend's hockey sweep over Michigan State was FSU's first over the Spartans on back-to-back days since 1990 and it marked the first-time ever the Bulldogs have beaten MSU in a weekend home series in Big Rapids.  Both of this weekend's games were played in front of sellout crowds of 2,490 fans.

Meanwhile, the Bulldog women's basketball squad maintained its hold on first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division with a 58-50 win over archrival Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.  The Bulldogs improved to 13-4 overall and 10-1 in league play with the triumph and hold a commanding lead over second place Michigan Tech (8-4) in conference action.

The Bulldog men's basketball team also took over first place in the GLIAC North as the Bulldogs topped rival GVSU 65-57 before a large crowd of 1,763 fans in Big Rapids on Saturday.  With the win, FSU now owns a half-game lead over Michigan Tech atop the division and is 11-7 overall with an 8-3 conference record.

Saturday's basketball sweep over Grand Valley State marked the first time the Bulldog men's and women's teams had beat the Lakers on the same day since the 2003-04 season.

The Bulldog basketball squads continue their five-game league homestand by hosting Lake Superior State on Thursday, Feb. 2, starting at 6 p.m. (ET) for the women and 8 p.m. (ET) for the men inside Wink Arena.  FSU then hosts Saginaw Valley State in GLIAC play on Saturday, Feb. 4.

FSU's hockey team will hit the road this coming week as the Bulldogs venture to Marquette to square off against Northern Michigan on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 3-4) at the Berry Events Center. Faceoff both nights is set for 7:35 p.m. (ET).
