Wysopal & Johnston Earn CCHA Weekly Honors
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has tabbed two Ferris State University men's ice hockey student-athletes as league players of the week following a sweep over Bowling Green State this past weekend (Nov. 4-5) at the BGSU Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Senior defenseman Brett Wysopal (LaGrange Park, Ill.) was named the conference's Defenseman of the Week and senior center Jordie Johnston (Rosetown, Saskatchewan) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday (Nov. 7).
Wysopal tallied a goal in each of the Bulldog wins this weekend, contributing to the 4-0 victory on Friday and a 5-3 win to complete the weekend sweep on Saturday. Wyospal finished the weekend with a +5 rating and blocked two Falcon shots.
This week's selection marks the second time Wysopal has received the honor in his collegiate career as he also earned the CCHA Defenseman of the Week honor once before in his sophomore campaign (11/9).
Johnston tallied two assists in Friday's victory. On Saturday, he scored the first goal of the game and tallied the game-winning goal. Johnston concluded the weekend with a +5 rating. He currently has nine points in the 2011-12 season coming from five goals and four assists.
This marks the first time Johnston has earned the CCHA Player of The Week award.
The Bulldogs, under 20th-year head coach Bob Daniels, hold a current record of 8-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play and are among the nation's top 10 teams in all three major college hockey polls this week.
The Bulldogs return home this weekend (Nov. 11-12) for a two-game CCHA series against the Lake Superior State Lakers. The puck is slated to drop at 7:05 p.m. (EDT) for both contests. LSSU is also 8-2 overall and ranked 11th nationally this week.
The first 500 fans to Friday's game will receive a Ferris Hockey Stress Puck. Following Saturday's game, senior Derek Graham along with sophomores Andy Huff and Cory Kane will be available on the concourse to sign autographs.
