Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University men's ice hockey junior forward Kyle Bonis (Lindsay, Ontario) has been chosen as this week's (Oct. 10) Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Offensive Player Of The Week, which was announced Monday (Oct. 10) by the league office.
Bonis registered a team-leading four points with three goals and an assist in Ferris State's season-opening series sweep at St. Lawrence (N.Y.) this past weekend (Oct. 7-8). He netted his first goal of the season on an even-strength game-winning tally in Friday's 4-2 victory over the Saints.
Bonis then had a personal career-high three points (2-1-3) and tallied another game-winning goal on a power-play in Saturday's outing. He also registered an even-strength goal and notched an assist on the final goal as the Bulldogs recorded the 5-1 victory. The 5-11, 175-pound forward concluded the two-game set with a plus two efficiency rating.
The league weekly award represents the first one for Bonis in his collegiate career. For his career, Bonis has recorded 23 points on 12 goals and 11 assists in 57 contests.
Freshman goaltender CJ Motte (St. Clair) was tabbed as a notable player in the CCHA release. Motte stopped 16 of 17 shots in his collegiate debut in the 5-1 Bulldog victory Saturday night.
Ferris State, which is currently 2-0-0 overall this season, hosts the RPI Engineers this weekend (Oct. 14-15) in its season home-opening series at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Opening faceoff for both non-league contests is at 7:05 p.m. (EDT).
